Julia Sweig is the Nelson and David Rockefeller Senior Fellow for Latin America Studies and Director for Latin America Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and specializes in Latin America and U.S.-Latin America foreign policy. Ms. Sweig is the award-winning author of "Inside the Cuban Revolution" and director of numerous Council-sponsored Task Forces on Latin America. Her latest book "Cuba: What Everyone Needs to Know" was released in June 2009.

Ms. Sweig holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an M.A. and PhD. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Julia Sweig discusses her new book, "CUBA: What Everyone Needs to Know," a guide to Cuba’s politics structure, its relationship with the United States, and its shifting role in the global community. During the last two decades, Ms. Sweig has toured Cuban prisons, lived with families on the island following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and interviewed hundreds of Cubans.
