Dr. Paul Farmer is a professor of medical anthropology at Harvard University. The subject of the national bestseller "Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Could Cure the World," Farmer is one of the founders of Partners in Health (PIH), a nonprofit dedicated to providing quality health care to the poor in third world countries. Through his more than 20 years of work in Haiti, Peru and Russia, Farmer pioneered the treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and drug-resistant tuberculoses. He is the author of "Pathologies of Power: Health, Human Rights and the New War on the Poor," which uses real world experiences to argue that promoting the social and economic rights of the world's poor is the most important human rights struggle of the day.
