Jim Gilchrist is a co-founder of the Minuteman Project which focuses on preventing illegal immigration across the United States’ southern border. After years of frustration over government enforcement of immigration laws, Gilchrist founded the Minuteman project in October 2004. He is a frequent commentator on national television programs, advocating against illegal immigration. Gilchrist holds conservative views on education, health care, and taxes. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and recipient of the Purple Heart award for wounds sustained while serving with an infantry unit in Vietnam, 1967 – 1969. He is the coauthor of "Minutemen: the Battle to Secure America’s Borders."

Jim Gilchrist discusses the efforts of his organization, the Minuteman Project, in the Southwestern United States to curtail illegal immigration and national security threats along the porous southern border. He explains that his movement placed more than 1200 volunteers in the desert along the Arizona-Mexico border in 2005 as a response to what he understands to be insufficient attention the illegal immigration national security threat posed by lax border security.
