The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan
Date: 9/29/2009
Former "Los Angeles Times" reporter James Mann discusses his book, "The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War," which chronicles Reagan’s handling of the policies and politics that ended America’s ongoing conflict with the Soviet Union. Mann shows how Reagan spurned both his right-wing base and foreign policy realists such as Henry Kissinger in an approach to the Soviet Union that included nuclear arms reduction and reaching out to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. From his administration’s preparations for possible nuclear war in 1983 to Reagan’s cultivation of Gorbachev in his second term, Mann portrays a transformation that brought down the Berlin Wall and changed world history.
