Religious Freedom and the War on Terror
Date: 4/24/2008
Joe Grieboski, founder and president of the Institute on Religion and Public Policy, discusses the importance of religious freedom when determining public policy and ultimately national security. He argues that religion is the social institution upon the freedom of which all other fundamental freedoms are built. He points to the fact that the post-9/11 global community draws attention to the multi-religious global community as well as the problems caused by religious intolerance. Grieboski suggests that the voice of religion should play a greater role in the political process. As a policy tool, religion and the freedom of it could go a long way to easing social tensions in the global community and thus removed potential threats to national security, he says.
